As the year ends, I&#8217;m still more resolved, if you will, to defend the genre as the touchstone of academic competence. In May, I suggested <a href=\"https:\/\/inframethodology.cbs.dk\/?p=6315\">a course design<\/a> that alternates between take-home and in-class essays to incentivize our students to develop their prose style. After the summer break, I wrote a few posts as time permitted &#8212; one about <a href=\"https:\/\/inframethodology.cbs.dk\/?p=6447\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"6447\">language models<\/a>, two <a href=\"https:\/\/inframethodology.cbs.dk\/?p=6467\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"6467\">about<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/inframethodology.cbs.dk\/?p=6474\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"6474\">Calvino<\/a>, and one <a href=\"https:\/\/inframethodology.cbs.dk\/?p=6482\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"6482\">for undergraduates<\/a> &#8212; and then decided to experiment with different daily writing routines.  First, I spent four weeks <a href=\"https:\/\/inframethodology.cbs.dk\/?p=6499\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"6499\">writing a daily post<\/a> in a very informal, unstructured way. Then I spent <a href=\"https:\/\/inframethodology.cbs.dk\/?p=6639\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"6639\">four weeks writing<\/a> a formally composed paragraph every morning whose key sentence I had chosen the day before. I rounded out the semester by working every morning on my book and writing  <a href=\"https:\/\/inframethodology.cbs.dk\/?p=6781\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"6781\">a weekly blogpost<\/a> about the experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/inframethodology.cbs.dk\/?p=6819\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"6819\">my last post<\/a>, I indicated the broad outlines of my plan for next semester. January will be very slow here, though I may post if the feeling strikes me. Something more rigorous will begin in early February.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In any case, I wish all my readers a very Happy New Year!
